The Nevada State Demographer's Office serves the State of Nevada and the public at large by producing annual population estimates; total population projections; and age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin estimates and projections.
Population projections are produced by the State Demographer’s office for Nevada and its counties. The projections are primarily for state budget planning purposes. They do go out to a 20-year horizon and are based on the most current estimates.
The model used to produce the population projections is the Regional Economics Models, Inc. (REMI) model. The model includes each of Nevada’s 17 counties as individual regions and is based on 23 economic sectors. It relates the economic and demographic characteristics of the counties to each other as well as to the nation as a whole. More information about the model can be obtained by clicking here.
The Demographer’s office also has access to data from Moody’s.com and has in the past looked at other data sources such as Woods and Poole as well as Census Bureau projections in reviewing the projections. In preparing the projections, we solicit information from local governments and other agencies such as Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s Research and Analysis Bureau as well as provide an opportunity for comment by local governments.
